    Got a top load Whirlpool HE washer been going strong for 8 years. Nary a problem. Will agree they leave a bit to be desired if cloths are really dirty. If I have real dirty clothes I separate them and do them myself in a small load. Never had a smell problem, thought that was just with the early front load machines.

    Better half decided she desperately needed to upgrade to a front-load, stackable washer dryer combo. I find them to be a pain in the butt to operate, but I have to admit the washer does work well with considerably less water usage. The dryer was a waste - the old one worked just as well, and we're saving nothing there. But, heck, this a free country dag nabbit, and I've decided to hate them both anyway...
    Always do what's right - it'll amaze some people and mystify the rest!
