i've been reading the post about the motor and i just got to add my two cents..
I always get very nervouis when some one spends all that money to get it ready for me... Why would they put that much into it then sell it i would ask? and have the motor check whitch i'm sure you will...

Just break down and write a check for a new ONE.....

LSL, will the seller share his service ticket from when he had it "gone through"? That term is pretty broad. Did he repair some major items or did he do some very extensive routine service? And to clear up something, don't mean to imply that used boats are a no no, to the contrary used rigs can be a good deal and a great match for the buyer. Seen many a person buy a new boat that turned out to be disappointing or poorly suited to them so bad deals aren't reserved for either used or new.

Some great advice. I have bought three used boats over the years. All have been very good to me with very little trouble. Had a scare or two along the way but always turned out to be minor/inexpensive issues. Two of them were bought from dealers and had been checked out and had all the paper work of what they checked and the results. All three were one owner boats. Which I feel was a good thing. I like what someone said about getting into a used one for an amount that you would not mind having to pay for a new engine install. I think I am that way with mine. It helps that it is paid for. If I had hardhunter2's money I would have a new 4 stroke on the back of mine. Maybe one of these days.

Just my .02, I'm sure their are plenty of rebuilt good motors. I just personally always get nervous about buying a motor that has been "gone through". Like Kaz said depending on what he means by that statement. This big bore two strokes are a finicky animal and require a rebuilder who is very particular and knows what he is doing. I would definitely want to know who did the work and talk to them. However, I think Mariners/Mercs are great, specially the 2.5. My Father in law has one(175) and it really runs. Make sure you have it checked out good.

    Matt
