I have known this since 1964, while in the Phillipines the red cross was there, coffee 25 cents a cup, dounut 25 cents........ the salvation army was also there, for troops all free....... haven't given to anyone but the salvation army ever since...... all reliefs scare me, like the one for starving kids, dogs,etc...... always someone wants to make a big pay day out of it.......
A FISH IN THE PAN IS WORTH TWO IN THE LAKE
This ought to be a sticky!
Thanks!
My wife used to work for The Red Cross. When she found out how little of each dollar went to help the ones who needed it, she resigned.
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty ia a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." - Benjamin Franklin.
Same thing Bob. A 1983 tornado hit Springfield hard when we lived there. The local R.C. chapter appealed for donations and people responded. What most didn't know was that the RC charter required a large cut go directly to the National chapter, recall it being in the 50-60% range. Bit of a bait and switch deal to me. They do some good work no doubt but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Good Message.
I always drop change in the Ronald McDonald box as I was unaware what they do for parents with sick children until my cousin's daughter was in an accident. They provided a place to stay near the hospital at no charge. That's a great organization.
Shriners is another one to mention. Their hospitals do great things for children with medical issues much like St. Jude.
I'm still a little pissed back in the 70's I was walking around with a little orange UNICEF box with starving kid pictures on it asking for change donations. I was unaware I was helping support a war effort in Africa to prop up a communist organization that was friendly to the United Nations. What can you trust with that kind of stuff that goes on.
Standing in the Gap
I am just looking forward to donating to the Hungry Crappie Foundation.
