If you like the boat and are content to keep it for many more years then putting a newer engine on an older boat is justifiable. If you plan on selling or trading it within 5 years you won't recover enough added value to justify the expense of a new engine, but again, it's your money. The absolute right answer differs with different people and situations, hope it works out for the best whichever way you go. Let me know if I can help in any way, I'd be glad to run the traps for used outboards or left over new ones if that helps. And I'd blame it on Dave if I were you.
    Thanks buddy

On a serious note there Bill, I had spent a little over 5 grand on the old 235hp I had on my boat that was rated for a 150 hp, and looked to be spending lots on the motor from then on.... so I bit the bullet, liked the boat must have had it 24 years, so I bought a new mercury 150 and that has been 17 years ago and still running (knock on wood) darn good.... starts real good in cold weather which is important to me, especially when the boat is frozen to the trailer......could have saved 2,500 hundred by buying motor in tenn, but then would have to paid double sales taxes, there and mo both, so decided to stay local and have warranty and all within 25 miles of my house. good luck in which ever avenue you take...... and next time you see ed say hello for me........
