Wow. I would say that should be enough for a few dinners.
let me explain, I write the outdoor column for most of the newspapers in Southeast MO and Northwest TN, around 27 on any given week (which pays very little!), and various magazines that are hard up for material ;), a guy approached me at the shop and told me he was starting a pheasant and quail preserve and wondered what it would take to get in the column, my old man has shown me pictures of him with pheasants in the bootheel of MO back when we had them, we don't anymore, I've never killed one, I told him just have me out and let me bring someone and I'll write the story and take a bunch of pictures, this was pop's Christmas present, we took turns shooting and filming, altogether there were 12 of us and we killed 50 birds, they fed us a great meal, and cleaned everyones birds, except ours because pop's said he'd rather do it himself! A trip to the Dakota's or paying for something like this is way out of my budget, so this is what we did. It turned out to be a lot less expensive on the other guys than I thought, $16 a bird, divided by 11 was around 90 bucks, and the meal was easily worth 15! It was also set in a valley between two ridges that was very picturesque, and the dogs they had working were great to watch. I hope I can generate them enough business that he'll have us back and let us bust some quail! Timber Rock pheasant and quail hunting, just west of Poplar Bluff MO, Brian Miller at 573-718-5833, tell him Josh sent ya!!!
Not about the money for me, it's about the sport......to each his own?
I would still rather hobble arround on my crutches and fall down a time or two and get lost never will I stand and let a person toss a bird in the air and let me shoot at it.
I'm not trying to be a smart guy or anything here, but isn't that pretty much the same as skeet shooting? Pheasant is awesome though!!
Ain't nothing like hunting wild pheasants , but they are hard to come by in Mo. I used to hunt them in Mi. back in the late 70's when they were plentiful .
Whatever floats your boat, we eat plenty of chicken, cow, and pig that are raised to die, over 50% of the pheasants made it to the woods, at least they have a chance, coyotes an hawks will eat good, I eat more real wildlife in a month than most folks do in a year, probably not you beagle, but most folks, and i have no qualms bustin these home grown birds and will certainly have no issues with fryin em up!
no problem here, just my opinion. after all I use every means abailable to track, catch and eat crappie.
Like you said each to their own and a day with your dad is priceless, so whatever you do to enjoy that time is great.
Have always wanted to try one of the european shoots, I have heard it will test you and your shotgun. Raised in SD. I know all about shooting wild birds and some of the places I have hunted since moving away will test those wild birds, granted some wont but looks like it was a blast to me and not very far away. Will have to look into it.
