Default question on finding out bout my gun

hey all! was over at my mom's yesterday, and was going thru my dad's gun safe and came across a rifle my grandpa gave me when i was 8.... i had totally forgotten about it anyway i remember him telling me it was pretty old and was giving to him by a buddy he fought with in WWII. it's an old single shot 22 ranger. was kind of interested to see if i could find out the history on it... any idea's on if i could take the serial number or model number and track how old it is. don't wanna sell it or anything, and don't really care what or if it is worth anything... was really just wondering if i could dig up any history on it? all my relative's that would know anything at all have passed. thank's for any suggestion's!
why do today what you can put off til tomorrow, go fishing instead!!!

I would take it to a gun smith and go from there.. they may know a few things and lead you to another place... good luck with your hunt... I did the same thing a few years back with sword that was past down to me... took me a full year to track it all down.

If the company that made it is still around you could give them the serial# and they could tell you when it was made.

I would try gunbroker.com also for a starting point. That's sounds really cool Jeff. May be a good time just trying to hunt down the origin of it.

There are lots of firearm related message boards, Jeffie. I would try a few of those. Good luck with your search.

    Cool

Jeff, are there any markings that you can see,,,(ie;ranger 22 s/l/lr _mod.#____) Googled up ranger single shot 22 and found some several different bits of info.

I would do a search for WWII gun historians, they would be the best people to talk to. They know the facts more over than just rumors that most go off of.
