    Default Walleye advice/tips???

Hey everyone, I know this is a crappie forum and all, I'm just curious if anyone would be willing to share a tip or two about finding and catching some walleye, mainly Truman walleye. I have never fished for them and wouldn't have a clue where or how to begin. Obviously I know to drop a line in the water and hope for the best, but where does one start? What is preferred artificial bait? What depths, points, rocky, weeds, etc. etc. I've been wanting to learn this for quite some time and have researched them quite a bit on the internet, however it seems that most people say fishing for Truman walleye is much different than fishing for walleye anywhere else? Mainly the dirty water I guess? Any tips or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I have caught two on Truman both by accident. Lots of them. Sing caught while crappie fishing in the spring time. Same for the bass guys throwing crankbaits on points in the spring. Jim the owner of Bucksaw was targeting them this year and I seen some pics of some very nice fish he caught. Once they open up in the spring he and the guides at Bucksaw would be good people to ask. I talked a guy who bass fishes lots of tournaments and said he started catching them bass fishing on stick baits last spring and he started chasing them the rest of the year with good results also. Main lake windy points and main lake and secondary points when they were running water was the ticket. I believe they could be caught with jig and crawler rigs like on other lakes. I may have to give it a try this spring.

we've caught them pretty regular while bass fishing.best area was from the dam up to kk island fishing rocky banks with good drops on them.main lake or front of creeks.they hit our bass cranks, to target walleye i would try the walleye type lures, maybe shad raps.this time of year stickbaits.maybe jigs?caught them up the arms too, but more scattered.
i'd be glad to mark your map or take a trip with you, i'm looking for somebody to split gas with.

Awesome! Thanks guys! My uncle has caught a few by accident while crappie fishing. Personally I have never caught one at Truman. We were fishing together about a week ago, T-2, and he caught about an eight incher and other than that I have never even seen one pulled out of Truman. Rumrunner, split gas? Heck, you show me how to catch these things and you can ride for free in my boat or I'll pay 100% gas in yours lol. I keep telling myself that I'll hurry and catch my limit of crappie and then try catching some walleye after that, however I get out there and realize I don't have a clue and never try. lol Thanks for the replies, guys!!

To further your education, you might try logging into IDOFISHING.COM it is a multi species site I believe out of Minnesota. I know we are not IN Minnesota, but their forum is much like CDC. Ask your questions and the folks on there will answer them. Good luck in your search.

Great! Thanks Jackb!!! I really appreciate it!! The only time I have ever caught walleye was when we went to Canada fishing and I was like 13 or 14 and that has been way too long ago to remember anything. I remember using leeches but that is about all I remember and I don't remember if we were catching pike or walleye on them lol.
