Hello all: Since I just started getting a sinus infection I figured I would ask what kind of home remedies people use for colds, flu's and what not. Sore throat is not a fun thing to have. Feels raw like I swallered a "SOS" pad.
I want to fish this weekend but unless I can get it under control I don’t think I can. A little fever as well but not too bad.
I know of some old cough syrup remedies that use whiskey or bourbon, but I need to be able to drive too.Rofl
So what do you all have to offer?

If you're just starting to feel like you're getting sick, you might try Zicam. There's several different versions (tablets, chewables, etc.) and you can pick it up just about anywhere (CVS, Walgreens and the like). I like the nasal spray and have used it a few times. An old lady at the bowling alley told me about it and it really seems to help if you use it right when you first start feeling sick.
If not, I'll chug some Nyquil, have a few beers, stock up on chicken noodle and call it a week.
Hope you're feeling better.
Well I was at work when it hit me. Called my Dr. he called in some antibiotics for me, picked them up. I have a steady supply of Nyquil in the closet, lol Just hoping to get it before its full bore and has me down for the count. I use to always eat about 4 jalapeno peppers and some chillies to try and burn it out of me. I still eat them but with the sore or raw throat I think I will pass this time.
I will take a look at Zicam. Thanks
But, how do you know what swallerin a SOS pad is like? I'll take your word for it as I don't want to know personally.Hands Clapping
Hey, Li'l Skeeter....This is what my wife got turned onto a couple years back. She's not as regular about it as the lady she got the recipe from...that lady doesn't skip a day!! But this stuff is good for what ails ya.
Tonic
Recipe from Darrel Drumright DC
1 bulb garlic
1 large white onion
1 hand-size chunk of fresh ginger
6” of fresh Horse Radish
6 fresh hot peppers (jalapeno, cayenne or chili--the hotter the better)
1 quart apple cider vinegar
1 quart 80 proof vodka
Use food processor to grate the bulb of garlic (not just a clove), onion, ginger root, horse radish, hot peppers, and throw them in blender. Cover with a quart of apple cider vinegar and a quart of vodka. (You will probably have to do this in stages as most blenders can’t hold all of these ingredients and liquid at once.) Blend for 2-3 minutes and pour into sealed bottle. We have found the Gallon-size Ice Tea containers with the spigot work really well. Let this mixture stand for 14 days, shaking (or stirring) every day. Then strain off the majority of the pulp and add more apple cider vinegar to taste. Take one teaspoon twice a day to prevent illness or every hour if you are coming down with something or already sick. This tonic will boost your immune system, improve digestion, clear your arteries and open your sinuses all with no side effects!
All with no side effects? I'm thinking diarrhea, horrible breath and possible vomiting. Rofl
Seriously though, sounds interesting .. might have to try that.
seriously, my wife will cut an onion in half and put it in a bowl next to her bed at night when she is sick. she swears it works, I dunno. I'm the kind of guy who rarely goes to see the doc for meds for anything. just stubborn, I guess.
I take a Vitamin C tablet/pill every morning from October to April or so, and seldom have a cold, the sniffles or sore throat. I get a flu shot every year as well. I use to have sinus congestion all the time but guess I finally outgrew that but I don't play golf 4x's/wk anymore either. I'm seldom sick and count my blessings for it too.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
