Went to several stores, tried the pawn shop in Monett,, guy had a CVA in good condition, showed it to me, and he could hardly get the primer core out, he got it unscrewed and it would not come out, he jiggled it and finally got it out, and for only 300 dollars it could be mine,,,, well no thank you, I just got done dealing with a guy who wanted one of my good dogs, haggled with him for two hours, and half pint of cheap whiskey, and a shot of shine, well he finaly said he would give me 200 dollars for the dog, I thought it was worth more so I said well let me adjust him a bit, cut off one leg and his tail, and kept half of his good bark,,,, he left, I went to Wal-Mart,,, I like walmart,,,, they had a CVA just like the one in the Pawn and it was half as much and it was new, checked it all out and got the stuff for to shoot with and now I am a daniel boone wannabe.(not the mississippi wannabe) and as of now reading up on same rifle gun and getting the bore sighter out gonna get ready for muzzle season, hope I don't hurt myself, or the neighbors duck.... about 200 geese came through the corn field this am.... dogs scared them off,,,, sure was pretty neat to watch them ... there was 3 deer in the corn also, and one ole big buck, I scared them all a little, hope they hang arround till gun season opens again... Later All.

Good luck Beagle. Hope you do good!
Congrats on the purchase Beags. Many a big buck has fallen to my two son's CVA's over the years. They shoot every bit as accurately as my Knight. Just be sure to clean it REAL GOOD after you shoot it. They corrode really fast!!!!

Glad you got one have fun.
your gonna love a smoke pole. what kinda goods did ya get? I like tripple 7 powder pellets. they burn cleaner. I aso like powerbelt bullets, but they lose accuracy with more than 100 grains of powder. 100 grains is all ya need out to 100 or so yards anyhow. good luck with your new toy, ya just might like it more than your "old"deer gun.
Congrats.on the muzzle loader.Thats where i got Logans and it shoots real fine.We use 100 grain and the 223 grain power pelt bullets in it.
I've had a smokepole since 89 and this is the 1st year I hunted with something else,(kids bought me a 30-06 for my b-day the 1st of the month)but they are fun to use.hope you have a good time with it.my 1st one was a CVA but got a TC so I could put a scope on it,still have both of them.
which cva rifle did ya get? i have the accura and i absolutely love it. both of my brothers have the buckhorn and for their bottom line muzzleloader, its great. the modern inline muzzys have made it possible to shoot 200-250 yards accurately (with a lot of holdover of course). i sight mine in at 100 yards, and have shot deer from 10-110 yards with it. as someone has already said, don't go over 100 grains of powder. you lose accuracy, get a lot of extra recoil, and even 150 grains only adds about 150fps muzzle velocity over 100 grains. as for bullet, powerbelts are pretty accurate, but they tend to explode and damage a lot of meat, and sometimes do not get a passthrough. i shoot hornady sst sabots, they always pass through but do damage a good deal of meat as well. i used to shoot hornady xtp w/sabot, and will probably go back to them when i run out of ammo. they are accurate, penetrate well, and do not explode. plus they are a little cheaper than the sst.
Have fun with it beagle...........we went out today and made sure that our smokepole was still on.........it was! I've owned a 50 cal H&R for the past 7 years and love shooting them.......90% of my deer hunting is with a bow now-a-days, most of the remainder is with the muzzleloader, they are a blast. I shoot the 250 gr powerbelt titaniums over 100 gr of pellets and have been able to get good accuracy.........I shoot open sights and that combo has worked well for me. Best of luck in your first deer hunt with the new rifle....hope it goes well!
