Default Where would go for a summer fishing trip..

We have gone up to Straight Lake in Minnesota the last few years and have had a blast, but it's not exactly known for it's fishing.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good summer fishing trip? I know Canada has some great trips, but we'd like to stay in the states and hopefully within 12 hours of Kansas City. We like to fish for northerns, walleye, musky, etc. but would be open to anything. This will sound pretty picky, but a cabin on the water and boat rental is almost a must. I've looked at several places in Minnesota, Wisconsin and even thought about a Louisiana bayou-type thing.

I've pretty much worn Google out and was hoping some of you might have suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Bill

Yeah, I know it's a crappie board ... but we kinda like to go after fish we don't normally get to catch (not that I catch alot of 2# crappie!). Because of the thread about your Grenada trip, we've actually talked about that.

Mille Lacs or Lake of the Woods in Minnesota.
Both are exceptional early summertime fisheries.

Mille Lacs in central Minnesota for smallmuth bass and walleye, Minnetonka not far away is good for largemouth bass and northerns although not sure on seasonal patterns of pike there.

    Hunter,
I knew you were just teasing .. seriously though, because of your thread we've talked about Grenada. That's what actually got me thinking about going south. Seems like most of the guys would rather chase walleye or northerns though.

I was really surprised I couldn't find some sort of cabin on the water with boat rental down in the bayou. I picture some swampy-type area with a bunch of big green carp, crappie, gators and who knows what else .. but I can't find anything like that. The only thing I could find were resorts & charters on the gulf. I'm more of cabin & our own rental boat kinda guy.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'll definitely look into them. If anybody else has anything .. I'm all ears. Thumbs Up

Give me a couple of days. My uncle goes to Canada every year. He's 85 now, and is done with going north after my trip. I'll get the info on the place he go's. 80+ Walleye a day plus you can go after big Northern and Lake Trout if you want. Great cabins, and boat is usually included.
