It may not be the type of fishing that you are looking for, but northern Arkansas has some of the best trout fishing in the country on the white and norfork rivers..........my brother and I spent a week down there a couple of years ago and loved it. I've also heard that some of the big rivers out in Montana and Idaho have awesome trout fishing........I've never been but have always wanted to try it.
We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish

D'Aarbonne lake in Louisiana is great for a Oct.trip,we went up the river and you will go thru small cuts in the bankline and it opens up into some backwater areas, only got to bass fish one day,(we were pre-fishing for a crappie tourn,) but we caught bass all day that weighed 2-5 lbs.,had one on that had to be bigger than 10.They claim to catch some 15 lbers every year there, also the crappie are bigguns also. The state parks have nice cabins to rent. Also the cajun food is great. The little ol lady at one of the gas stations will scare the hell out of you though,(weird stuff on her hands and face, chicken feet hung over the counter, voodo I think, can't hardly understand what she says cajun for sure )but I just loved it down there.fishing was great, people were the most freindly of all the places I ever went to,I fished crappie usa tourn.for years all over the country.

Reelfoot has some great deals on cabins with boat, gas, bait and ice included. Pretty cheap also. Lots of crappie and big gills.

One of my uncles who goes on the trip is in Nashville, so he might like that Reelfoot idea (a little closer to home).

Thanks for all the replies. I'll definitely be looking into all of them. It's always the best week of the year and I think it would be nice to try a different place next year.
