    Default got a new boat

Picked up a new to me boat yesterday. Its a 88' 18 ft ebbtide dyna trak with a 150 evinrude. Had a new power head installed in 07 and the guy i got it from said it ran great for 2 years and then started acting up. Well after draining the gas and cleaning carbs and seafoam took maiden voyage and ran great. Whats your guys opinion on disconnecting auto oiler and pre mixing? i have heard horror stories of them failing

I would 100% do it. It's not a question of if it will fail but rather a question of when it will fail. If you mix it yourself there's no doubt it's getting oil.

Congrats on the new ride. Hope it takes you to many limits and lots of fun on the water.
I would disconnect any non fuel injected motors oiler for sure. Would do it on my boat now if it was not an EFI. Wal-Mart sells a nice little bottle with a screw on lid that is marked for differant ratios. Just put in gas and then fill to correct line for amount of fuel used and dump it in tank. By the time you get to the water it should be mixed up fine. Never had any problem doing it that way for years in my prior boats. Once again congrats on the boat and lets see some pics.

I have a fuel injected EFI and I still unhooked the factory oiler, on my Mercury I had to go in and pull a little pump pin, only took about 30 min. to do it...... I have never trusted the oilers, I have over the years ending up running a little rich, looks like I am fogging for bugs when I fire it up, but $16 a year for new plugs is a cheap price to pay to be sure oil is getting to the engine and it is going on 16 years of trouble free service......

Cool I may have to check into it again. When I got it I asked the mechanic about it and he said that my 175 EFI mixes it differant at differant RPM's and should never unhook it. I sure liked being able to mix it and be safe before. Mine has an alarm but just like the oil pump it could fail also.

I found out the hard way that the alarm is for a "low" oil condition....NOT for a failed pump....when my pump quit, there was plenty of oil in the reservoir, so no alarm...just a fried bunch of cylinders....

We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish

Got the vro disconnected, all lights working, new live well pump, and trolling motor mounted. I picked up a lowrance x135 off craigslist for 50. I need a new transome bracket for transducer any ideas? A couple seats and im set. It is a nice piece of mind knowing the motor is getting oil for sure!
