Mine goes like this, I am sitting on my deer stand south of the house. hear a truck stop,

door creek shut slooly, bam pause. bam bam what the heck. I hit the dirt, sounds close to me.

well I peak up, see this old man standing by the truck wet bibs on, shaking like a dog out of the water.

what the heck I ease up, Heck it's Herb _______known him all my life, what the heck is going on I ask,

well he sees this deer, shoots at same, then bam his hat flies off, then bam dirt in front of him flies up.

seems like some one else had snuck in and set up and he shoot at same deer in the other direction. He hit herb in the hat and in front of the truck. Now I am inbetwee both of the yahoos.

I did not deer hunt for 20 years after that. BE SAFE

Me and two buddies were checking out some new ground. It was the day before rifle season and we weren’t going to hunt it that year anyway so we strolled across the field. About halfway across a cut bean field we hear BAM followed by an ominous whistling sound. Now I don’t know how close a bullet has to be to hear it but I’m sure it’s too close. No one said a word be we simultaneously turned around and headed towards the truck. I guess they were sighting in their rifles with no backstop as we hear several shots hurrying back to the truck. Man I bet that’s a good spot?????

Last season, I had a 15 year old kid point his deer rifle at me. Scared me good enough to crawl around to the other side of a big tree. Met the kid at the truck later that evening. Said he had pulled the ammo out of his gun and was trying to find out if I was his dad by looking through the scope. I told him, If I was his dad and he pointed his rifle at me, I would have kicked his butt. I have not been out in a couple years. Something about having a deer rifle pointed at you takes the fun out of it. I would go again if I had private land to hunt but that is getting harder to come by.

I've been sitting on the other side of that same tree when I heard the whistle of the bullet going by just before I heard the shot. No one else had permission to be on the property. ??? Let's just say I stayed where I was till it was DARK-thirty and then carefully picked my way out of the woods one big tree at a time!

Not deer but spring turkey hunting the 1987 season. Working a bird on our 300 acres by Piedmont, MO. Our land bordered some state ground. I had a hot bird answering me but he would hang up at a blown down tree about 75 yards from me. After a little cat and mouse with him, I waited till he marched to the other end of the ridge. I belly crawled to the blow down, turned my back to the bird and clucked softly on my call, trying my best to sound like a sultrey hen! The tom doubled gobbled and came running toward me. I get ready for him when BOOM!!!!!! There was a shot between me and the turkey!!!! I waited a few minutes and got up ready to tear someone a new azz for hunting on our property!!!! I walked down the ridge and found a 80 something year old man holding the biggest turkey I have ever seen! He was shaking with tears in his eyes. He heard me working the bird that morning and slipped between us! He had been hunting the state ground! He said " I've been turkey hunting 30 years and this is the first one I've ever killed!" GGGRRRRRRRR!!! "Congratulations" says I! Then informed him that he was on private property when he crossed the barbed wire fence with the NO TRESPASSING signs, and that he dang near shot me!!! He acted like he didnt know that he entered private property! He headed back to the state ground. I walked back to the cabin and gave up turkey hunting! been an avid crappie spawn fisherman ever since!

The crappie fishing is better duriong spring turkey season. I trade fish for Moral's and turkey breast every spring. I get the enjoyment of catching the fish and then get the good feast of fried turkey and Mushrooms. No hunting for me anymore not even deer. I just fish year round.
