Default Weedwacker Gas Trimmer 4 cycle?

The old weed eatter is getting wore out and it hard to get parts for. Granted its been good for a cheap used one that I got off a neighbor.

But I have been looking at one of the new Sears Craftsman models. I would like to have one that I could put one of those little chain saws on to make it easier to trim libs off fence lines.

I have noticed that they are making them now in 2 cycle and also 4 cycle models.

Anyone had any experience with a 4 cycle trimmer? Will the 4 cycle motor hold up?

No experience with a 4 stroke, but I have a 2 cycle Poulan Pro straight shaft with the brushcutter head and chainsaw attachment. I was amazed at what the saw will cut! I have cut limbs that it didn't quite reach through all the way with no problem. Just don't let one pinch the saw or you will be turning the air blue with colorful metaphors trying to get it unhung!:D
also, they cut kinda slow, so don't expect to cut through a limb and have it drop straight down. they WILL swing back and knock the stuffin' out of you if you aren't careful

Ok question for you, can you cut with the top part of the bar like a normal chainsaw? Or is it to hard to hold up with the pole? When I use a chainsaw I always cut up below the limb if I want to take good care of the tree before I cut the limb off.

I figured that if you got it pinched you would turning blue or in my case red! LOL!

You can cut with the top, but if reaching very far up in the tree it takes a lot of effort. I also prefer to make a cut on the under side of larger limbs to keep them from splintering, but higher limbs you end up cutting kinda from the sides instead of straight up or down so it can get dicey in a hurry!

    Default Only Time Will Tell!

Well after looking in todays paper Sears had a sale on both the 2 cycle and 4 cycle models. PW58 & I went over there and looked at each one. Decided that we would take a chance with the 4 cycle one and also purchase the chainsaw attachment so I can use it on the farm with the fence rows. We did get the straight shaft and it also has the electric starter with it.

Well since our son, the Branson Cop, didn't have a weedwacker I was talking about giving him our old Weedeatter Brand trimmer. But since the guy was so nice at Sears and they had a good sale on the 2 cycle models also we just got him a new one too. So we got him the 2 cycle model just like the 4 cycle model we got for ourselves. He has been nice enough to keep our yard mowed all summer long and he wouldn't take any payment. It was kind of nice knowing that my good riding mower was in safer hands with him than PW58's! Especially when I called home early this Spring and was told by PW58 that she wasn't using my riding mower because the first time she had used it she had run one of the front tires off the rim!

So I guess we will see which one either the 2 cycle or the 4 cycle model works the best.

One thing I can say about each of them after looking at them in the store. WoW do they really have a easy pull starting rope.

glad you found a good buy on what you need and yes, the newer ones are really easy to start compared to the old Homelite I still use from time to time

Got those deer on the farm all fattened up for bow season? Sure wish I could bow hunt, but the shoulder surgery a few years back didn't help much, so can't draw even a light weight bow

Yeah Iam looking forward to seeing which one either the 2 cycle or 4 cycle does the best job.

Yeah I think they are doing just fine. Dad was saying something about fence damage the other day. Well I would go out and shoot a couple for you up at the farms and bring them to you field dressed if you would like me too. I am sure it would make dad very happy. I still have all my deer hunting gun equipment. And I wouldn't mind buying the tags. I just don't eat deer anymore and I don't want to waste it. Thats why I don't hunt anymore. I have a nice trophy 10 point on the wall, with a couple of crappie and a pheasant. PW58 says no more going up on her wall! Bet if I get a nice couple of quail and a 15 inch crappie she will change her mind!

LOL dad used to let a guy bow hunt on us up there. Only thing dad would tell the guy that hunting and killing was free, no cost at all! But for every missed shot dad wanted $100.00

I kind of figure it like this, yes I like deer meat. But when I have all the beef I can eat why eat deer? Them cows don't make me much money so I might as well eat them!

Update on the Weed Eatter deal. LOL son loves his 2 cycle Sears Craftsman that we got him. He said it was easy to start but it was sure loud! Last night we went over to Sears and got him the blower attachment and the edger attachment since they were on special. The blower attachment is supposed to blow 150 mph. Most larger blowers do somewhere in the 200 to 250 mph speed. But I didn't give much for the attachment.

I still have not gotten my 4 cycle yet! I guess Sears thinks that if its not on the shelf and you want it bad enough that you will order it. And since they have your money they can just make you wait for it. I did get the chainsaw attachment today that I ordered at the same time.

I tell you its getting like you can't even talk to anyone in Sears order department anymore. You have to punch something into a computer to get someone to bring out your order to you. You look up on some computer screen and your name is up there with a time clock with some employees name up there beside it. Then there is some poster listing the name of fastest order puller from last month. Then they bring out the order to you throw it at you then see how fast they can push the button on the little computer they have in their hand. When I called over to the store this morning I had to push so many buttons on my cell phone to finally talk with someone I think I wore out a couple of buttons on my phone!

Well used the 4 cycle model tonight! Dang it was so quiet that well worth the extra cost! And it starts so easy! It used about the same amount of gas that the old 2 cycle used. It was just a little heavy, but with a shoulder strap that helps out.
