Smithville is continuing a boil order city officials issued earlier this week.
High levels of manganese were detected during scheduled maintenance to the Smithville Lake dam on Tuesday.
As manganese combines with chlorine disinfection, the water takes on a yellowish to brown coloring raising turbidity levels. Due to the poor water, the city began using its alternate treatment source to improve water quality
