found out the hard way that if you don't put your plug in, all you have to do is throttle up and your prop will create a vacum effect draining about a foot of water out my boat in a minute or so. this happened on the mo river and scared the sh!! out of me. also left boat strapped to trailer. couldn't really tell, trailer floats well! lets see here, what else? lost a tramsom saver once. left 10 ft jiggin poles in vertical holders & when I got home all tips were broke and one was missing. forgot to latch trailer hitch and got off scott-free! only drove a few miles before I realized it, but still.... all I can say is, HOOORAAAY BEEEEER!!!
first time I put my boat in the water, I took it to local, "safe" place that i grew up bank fishin. i had my truck and new boat shined up nice, family in tow, went to back my boat in the gravel ramp on the bar pit, missed the ramp and backed way out into 6 inches of wet gravel, tried to pull forward, 2wheel drive truck, burried the back tires down where the trailer tongue was layin on the ground, spent a lot of time pushin' and shovin' to no avail, a crowd gathered, many ideas where shouted out, one of which was since the prop was in the water, maybe if 2 guys pushed from the front and i got in and floored the outboard in reverse we could get the boat off the trailer and then get the truck out, i got in and set in the driver seat for the first time, looked down and realized i'd left the keys 45 miles away at my house. eventually we got a big log and pried the trailer up off the hitch, pulled the truck out, backed in a big farm truck, pried the trailer back up enough to get the jack under it, and pulled it out. My wife and son sat in the truck the entire time and never said a word to me as i hooked up and drove home, i told em it was too windy to fish today!
Wow kingK...after an episode like that I'm surprised you could talk at all!:eek::D:D:D
I saw a dude back down with his motor toter still attached. I let him know it was still on. I thought that was silly until I did the same thing. I would have thought the trim hydraulics were malfunctioning had I not seen him do that a few weeks earlier.
Later on I was walking up to the truck at 1:00 am. I noticed the guy driving up to his trailer with the trolling motor down. I ran back with my hands up yelling, HOLD IT, HOLD IT. Boy ask me WTH my problem was. I said I didn't have a problem, but I didn't want to watch you snap you trolling motor off your bow. It was early morning and I don't think his weigh in went well for him.
We all do these silly things, I've found out no one is exempt.

It's a lot funnier when it happens to someone else.:D About 2 months ago, I was backing the trailer in to launch the boat and someone hollered to Mr. CN that there was a problem....... seems like I (yes, it was my fault) had remembered to take off the motor toter, put in the plug and unhook the front tie strap and safety chain but only remembered to remove ONE of the back tiedowns. The other was still attached! Thankfully the person alerted us. :)
My best friend bought a new to him sea doo speedster. Well he unhooked the back tie downs and put in the plug. As I was loading the cooler in the boat. He got behind the wheel while I unhooked the front tie strap. I backed the sea doo down the ramp into the lake and tap the brake and the boat didnt float off and away. He starts up the twin engine and shifts it into rev and gas on it and boat didn’t move. He said are you sure you unhooked the front strap. I said yes as I was walking back there to double check. I had forgotten to unhook the safety chain. But I had never owned a boat with a safety chain. My buddy laughed and told everyone what I had done. All my friends are new to boating and it made there day to hear about my screw up.
