yeah, we use it to talk to family. makes it a little more personal. little nieces and nephews can show us the picutres they drew at school, and they get to show off their new clothes, etc, you know the stuff kids like to do. we like it.

Microsft Instant Messanger also has a video messangers. I've used that before. As long as both people talking have cabel internet, it's pretty fast and have no delays. IM also have a voice messanger; that's just like talking on the phone.

I used it when my son was in Austria going to school. We use it to talk to a couple in Germany that we met through our son's student exchange. We stayed with them when we went to see our son and they are planning to visit us next year.
My brother-in-law uses it to keep in contact with his son in Colorado.
It is pretty cool.

a lot of military use skype for deployments but like it was said earlier in the thread if you both don't have cable internet it will be choppy. I have magic jack which seems to work a little better at not having the delay but there isn't any video.

skype is amazing. free stuff includes video and text chatting, games, and file transfers. it's real handy if you have a lot of data to send someone that is too big for e-mail, just drag file to text box and drop.
if you buy skype credit, you can make phone calls for a super cheap price, especially international. i mean calls to someone's phone / non skype.
