Default Something smells dead in the garage...what a surprise!

Well, today I got dumped on during a brief but torrential rain. Got the boat in the garage and started wiping off the electronics. Then emanating from somewhere in the garage was the smell of death. I though it was a mouse that got caught in the garage, couldn't get out and died. As I kept wiping down the electronics from the boat, I figured out the smell was coming from the boat. What the heck?! What could have died in the boat?! Nothing in the live wells. Nothing in the storage compartments. After I exhausted looking in all the nooks and crannies of the boat I had to put the old nose to work. Well, after about 5 minutes on all fours I figured out the smell was coming from the front deck. The front deck? Why the heck did the front deck smell like something died on it...then it dawned on me. I've dropped about 100 dozen fish on the front deck and the slime coat that wiped off was giving off 3 years of sun burnt, winter frozen smell. Holy crap, did this stuff stink after the rain activated the aroma! So got the hand held unit of the carpet cleaner and decided to give the carpet a wash. An hour later and a half bottle of Oxyclean carpet cleaner I thing I got the most of the slime coat/smell out.

My pop left a quail in his hunting vest one fine December day. Last time out hunting for the year. He left the vest hanging in the garage. The quail's aroma in April was putrid. We looked all over for a mouse or something. The quail was like gelatin. Took a couple washings to get the odor out of the vest.
