Red face This is why I ALWAYS set the parking brake!

I found this on the Arkansas Forum and thought it would be a good reminder so the same thing wouldn't spoil your fishin' trip!

I watched that yesterday and it sounds like the guy must have fell cause he said he got knocked out. Lucky the rig didnt run him over on its way down if he was out.

I heard that mentioned as well. If he had set the brake before getting out it would have prevented the loss, embarrassment and near tragedy. I had the parking brake seize once on a very steep ramp and couldn't pull forward. Had to put it in reverse and rock the truck to break it loose. I had set the brake before putting it in park, so now I make sure it is in park and then set the brake and it hasn't happened since. Sure had me worried for a minute there

put my old dodge in park the other day and all I heard was buzzy yelling hey hey it was in park but still going backwards, jacked knifed the boat, creankled the corner panel broke the light, bummer, if it had been a ford would have to total it out

Interesting you say that. I actually heard that is was better to put the truck in neutral, then set parking brake and then put the truck in Park. This was said to put pressure on the brakes first, instead of the pawl in the transmission linkage, which is a weaker park, compared to the parking brakes.

Making sure I have well maintained brakes is very important when loading on some steep ramps. I've seen too many videos or vehicles going into the drink!

It was a freak occurrence and only happened once out of the many times I launched at the same spot, so still not sure why it happened. Putting it in neutral probably would be the best way to do it as I know the pawl is a pretty puny device to hold a big truck! On that ramp I got in the habit of putting it in park so the brakes wouldn't have the pressure and possibly seize again. I'll experiment the next time and see if it will repeat the problem now that I know I can get them to unlock:D

It IS a Ford, so may have to call a wrecker next time:D:D:D
