Default How do you remember 9-11?

Each year since there is stuff on TV and radio that reminds me of what I was doing when I first heard the news.
I was living in Las Vegas NV and I woke up that morning in kind of a bummer mood because the Broncos played Monday Night on the first game of the season and Ed Mcafery had a nasty break in his leg and would end his season.
I went into my "office" and turned on the radio (I'm a talk show junkie) to listen to the news, get on the computer and see if there was any good news for my football team.
The top of the hour news was on and they said "Mc Caran airport is still closed due to the tragedy in NY". I went and turned on the news and there was the live coverage of one of the buildings still standing and burning. My first thought was "isn't the world trade center 2 buildings?" I always had confused them with the Sears tower in Chicago.
I called my mom who I always go to for advice on politics, news etc. and asked her "Are you watching this?" The "yea" was in a tone that I knew wasn't good. As I was watching and talking to her, the second building fell. It is a sight I will "NEVER FORGET" as long as I live. The only thought I had then was "there has to be 20 or 30 thousand people in those buildings".
I was amazed over time that it turned out to be a few thousand.
I hope that you all haven't forgot, maybe not each moment of everyday of your life, but I hope it is in your core. Not like some of the dirt bags that supposedly serve us in DC.
Please share your stories, some I'm sure are emotional, but I hope it keeps us all remembering what a great country we (what is still left of it) live in.
    Thanks for reading,

    Good post Rugs.

    No, GREAT POST RUGS.

I'm not really going to go into it because I can honestly say that I still get pretty upset thinking about it and even worse talking about it.

This is a great country and I can say with all my heart that I am really disappointed in what the political landscape has turned into. I just don't understand where people come up with this crap about we can't do this because it might offend someone, and we can't do this because it might upset someone, and we have to allow all these border jumpers some rights because they broke the law to get here in the first place.

Anyway, I'm not going to get started but wanted to say THANK YOU for this post. Maybe someday when I run into you I will tell you more about my 9-11 memories.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, rather to skid in sideways, body used up and totally worn out screaming 'WOO~HOO what a ride!'

I was at Eskan Village, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I was under a HUMMV changing the starter when I was told by a co-worker that I needed to report back to the office. Needless to say I tried getting hold of my now exwife and new born daughter. I was in shock. About a week later I finally got hold of my family and told them that I was doing ok. Aint been the same ever since. Got to deploy every other year now!

    I couldn't agree more Chris.

That was back in my house building days and I was just finishing a new one for a Pakastani doctor. It was a nice place and we worked our butts off building it. Made nice $ on it also. When the news came on the radio, one of my contractors wanted to start stuff with the Dr. I ran him off the job and told him that the doc had nothing to do with it.

Was in my college days and had to wake up a little early to go to the auto auction with my grandfather. While I was getting ready I saw the smoke pouring out of one of the buildings and the news didn't know what happened yet really.

Then the second plane hit so I started to wake up some friends who had crashed at my place. No one really wanted to get up and I remember telling "seriously, you need to watch this." So we sat in my living room for a while and watched until they had both collapsed.

I went to the auction with my grandfather, who had lost 3 brothers in WW2. I don't know why but that seemed so relevant at the time and still does to this day. I spent the day with some older guys and it was interesting to hear what they had to say. Generational gaps became very evident.

Weird, as I was typing this my mother called me telling me to go to cnn.com. She was talking with my best friends since pre-school's mother. He has been in Afghanistan for almost a year now. Anderson Cooper I guess is inbedded with him there now and there are some pics of him on there website. The story was about removing IED's in Afghanistan and I seriously got goose bumps after that call. It kind of ties everything together I guess.

Kind of rambling but it is tough to express what I was feeling and why those thoughts came into my head at that time.

    God bless our troops!

I love your response Michael, first you saw that this would be a war or that we were in one, willing or wishing to fight, then when when it was time to worry about your family that went to the top of your concerns.
You say that you wish the politicians who start wars had to fight in them would be a cure for the nonsense wars we have meddled in.
Peace to you to brother, I don't like it any more than you do or than folks like Crappiencali who get sent out to deal with these issues using there lives, whether loosing or giving up theirs spending it at home with their families.
Those of you that wish not to post a "rant", thank you, I understand. I just was wanting to hear from some of you who I have met and some I haven't how you remembered that day.
Peace to you all, and catch lots of fish.
