This is newby's "Cardwell" - attended Bucksaw event with MarknKC "good friend from highshool" - we got reunited at our 30 yr class reunion and he took it upon himself to get me and another friend on the lake. Registered as soon as I returned and look forward to learning the ways. I live in Joplin with my wife of 25yrs, 2 children, 2 cats and 1 lab. I've always hunt/fish growing up and just started hitting Grand and Stockton Lake's for slabs. Learning something new every trip and just trying to soak it all up.

Glad you got signed up. Was good to meet you at camp and look forward to seeing you on the water again. My wife's brother and sister in law live between Joplin and Carthage. He build's and remodels homes down there. We end up down there from time to time. Always like to hit Academy when we are there. Seems they always have some things other sporting goods stores do not carry. Anyway welcome to the site. It is a great place for info on about any lake in MO with lots of great members willing to help out.

Great meeting you and your family and thanks for letting us pick your brain. I hope I'm able to get back up, soon as I really enjoyed the lake and social. It's been sometime since I fished Truman and really glad MarknKC was there to lead the way. It is suprising how much Academy offers - only knock, they have a lot of "out of stock", so I go back and end up buying something I really don't need - have you stopped by Southtown, located just north of 32nd and S Main intersection - pretty good selection, as well - locally owned.

I am Bear101110, aka Tony. I just recently moved to Kansas City to go back to college searching for a bachelor's degree. College and work finally slacked off a little bit that I was able to check out Smithville lake for some crappie fishing the past couple of days and even though I haven't caught a single fish yet ( bank fishing) I really like the lake and plan to start fishing there quite a bit. I am 25 and engaged to get married in almost a year. I grew up from 2 hours east of here as far in the sticks as you can get, so fishing has been always in my lifestyle. When I was little, I always wanted to go fishing for catfish in my grandpa's pond but then my dad started getting into Crappie fishing over at Thomas Hill lake and I followed in his footsteps. Now I am addicted and hoping to learn more at this new lake close to me. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I went the past couple of days fishing off of the dock and bank and had no luck but figured the front wasn't helping. I do not have a boat so I am currently limited to the bank. Thank you for any future advice, and glad to be a part of this forum. Good luck to all!!!

Welcome Tony! Don't be discouraged by your luck so far. Smithville is a tough lake. But the pros on this site are very helpful!

Hope to see you out there. My wife and I will be on a late nineties 16' red and tan Lund, based out of Camp Branch.
