My numbers were the right color just not far enough apart. He said I would get a ticket the next time he caught me. He was fairly polite and he was right, I just put the #'s next to each other without much separation. It was a brand new Skeeter that I had only had for 2 weeks, I sure hated scraping those #'s off but I did that day and the next day I saw him looking at me again with his bino's.
I got checked coming out of state park marina at Truman a couple years ago for the same reason. The letters were ok but too close together. I told him it was the first day of my trip and couldn't get the new ones on until next time. He said ok and said if someone else pulls you over show them this. He was nice and polite and so was I. Make sure the letter spacing is correct.
