Welcome to the board. Just my two cents, I think contrast is more important than color most of the time. If you stick to lighter color combinations on bright days/clearer water, and darker color combo's on cloudy overcast days and dirty water, you will catch fish. By contrast, I mean a different color head, body and tail. Generally something like black/chartreuse, blue/white, black/red, white/chartreuse etc will catch fish under most conditions. I also like an orange or pink jig head for contrast.
