I have caught a few while fishing for crappie at Smithville . I like the smaller lakes in the area for bigger gills though .

OTD and I caught some small gills on tebo creek last spring. As jed clampett would say when lookin at Jethro: "Pittteefullllll, Just pitttttefull!" If you want big gills Jack Come up to the Mississippi River in Wisconsin. We drop shot in 10 to 20 feet of water for big gills using a small piece of crawler. The big ones like the hanging on the edge of heavy current.
Love the crappie fishin in truman however. The friends we made there even better.

Smithville bluegills are plentiful, but usually top out at about 7.5 inches. If you want to catch some big bluegill go to Tobacco Hills Lake. It's located on the Guy B. Park Conservation Area north of Platte city on HWY 371. I manage it strictly for big gills and they have to be 8 inches to keep and you can only keep 10 per day. Big redear (over 10 inches) are pretty common in Watkin's Mill State Park Lake.
