    Default Licking my wounds.

Ya'll know how some times what seems like a great idea at its inception can turn into a pretty stupid idea when it's implemented? Well, I had me one of them this morning. What happened was...

Last time I went fishing, Monday it was, I put in early in the morning, and the wind was dead calm. When I left the wind was a nasty monster, and putting the boat on the trailer was a chore. Soooo, this time I decided to be cleaver. Instead of backing all the way into the water and then trying to load the boat, I decided that I would hold on to the shoreline (I suppose that is whatcha call the rope that's tied to the bow?) while Jennifer slowly backed the trailer into the lake. My plan was to walk up the trailer and guide the boat as she eased down the ramp. That was the plan.

What actually happened was that as I was walking up the trailer with the boat in tow, my shoes got a little wet and the wind picked up a little more. So, when a strong gust hit it pulled the boat out into the water as BCM was trying to take a step forward, I was pulled backwards off the trailer into the lake. So instead of taking a few extra minutes to load the boat the way I always have I spent a lot longer to soak myself in some 62 degree water, which by the way is down right chilly. And my wonderful bride was sitting nice and dry in the truck laughing her tail off, and the first words she said to me were, "I've gotta remember to bring that video camera."

Now, I'm back at home, warming myself by the toasty heater, and wondering why I ain't no smarter than I am. Oh, two positive things did come from the trip though. We caught two nice crappie, and we got to meet Bassnomo. Nice guy right there and it was a pleasure to meet him.

Max, my bride would have left me in the water and hurried home to GET the video camera. If I was out by the time she got back, she'd as me to do it again so she could get it on tape. She has that kinda warped mind. Hope you're OK. Sounds like you could have marked yourself. Hope to see you this weekend.

Well, next time you could try to DRIVE the boat up the trailer as your bride backs it down. Let us know how it goes! HAHa!!

Jimmy, our wives have a sense of humor in common. I wish you could've seen Jennifer in the truck laughing. She got a kick out of it, and told me later on that she thought it was probably a bad idea! Great time to share that insight. I sustained only minor injuries. The thing that got hurt the most was my pride, and I'm used to that. It could've been a lot worse. That the Lord looks after idiots is something that I never forget to say thanks for! We are looking forward to meeting ya'll too.

Hahaha! That is a fine idea you have right there. Yes it is! For some reason, even after the incident, I didn't think of that.

Shucks, you're lucky. Once I'd fallen in, my wife would have hit reverse and gunned it, then forward and peeled out headed down to the insurance office.

Note to sef: Remember to call insurance agent and lower my coverage.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

Do you know what the most important element of your post is, Max? That your wife CAN BACK A TRAILER!!! You must be so proud!

No doubt, Big Crappie Max married up for sure. I had the pleasure of meeting them this morning. BCM and his bride are very nice folks. Just wish we'd all caught more fish. I had 7 crappie 3 bass only one keeper. Oh well, it was a great morning anyway.

Hope to meet a few more of y'all along the way.

NavyCrappie, yeah, Max has got it good. But he and I have that in common. Dee can load/unload the boat, drive the big motor, run the trollin motor, I can send her for more minners and she don't get lost, and I'm teaching her how to fillet. She'll put a dip of skol in and get right with hunting those crappie. All I have to do is fish - hee hee.

Even thought about rentin her out, cause she's real good luck. Always caught fish when she's along, and I can't say that bout my buddies I bring along down there. We're gonna give heck this week end.
