Default Today started slowly and ended with a whopper

I made the mistake of trying to target the shallower fish in the shallower contours pulling crankbaits and got no bites. It was close to lunch, so I moved deeper to get a small keeper catfish while the kids caught a keeper crappie each. And then, my daughter thought she had a hangup (which is logical because I was trolling 1.5 mph and the line was spooling out); after fighting it a bit and got movement like dead weight, I finally realized what was on the other end….an 8lb flathead catfish.

If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

I wish my wife would eat catfish, that is a fine eater there. I throw all the catfish I catch back.

As long as I fillet them and remove the skin, my wife is fine eating catfish. When she realized that I can clean them this way, she actually asked me to start keeping some within reason (ok to throw back small ones).

While I know that this is a crappie forum, I find it interesting what I (or the kids) can catch while fishing for crappie using crappie tackle.

I catch some Monster catfish while single pole fishing. I don't carry monster Ice Chests so no way to keep them.
