I'm not sold on planers. I camped at Enid last week. Caught 13 Thursday, 11 Friday, and 15 Saturday. Ran two 16's and two 12's off the sides of my G3 with no planers.

Planers aren’t for everyone and as a guide, they can run you to death if the bite is on. That said, of the 2 boats in our group at Enid and Grenada, one had boat limits every day except the last when he left early and my boat had one 40 fish boat limit and 3 days that were great catches. We depended on the boards when the fish were not hitting the longline cranks.

I have unpackaged mine and put them together. I plan to try them myself Friday.
One word of warning about Off Shore OR-12 planer boards is don’t depend on the tattle flag to stay down with even a large crappie. It is a great tool but the nature of a Crappie coming to the top when hooked takes the resistance off the back release and the flag won’t stay down. You can see bites if you happen to be looking at the board but the best indicator is a board dropping out of formation.

Look at the board formation over Adam’s (Dutch552) shoulder. That’s how we set up our boards. There is more separation than what appears in the pic.

Thanks for the info.

Here is a pic of one of our four-board spreads that illustrates the 8’ of separation between the lines that MRDUX explained. Board #3’s tattle flag hardware was setup a little differently and caused it to pull a little father behind the others in this photo.
Looks like a sharp turn is out of the question
Wider, sweeping turns than would have to be done with just cranks.

Can turn just as easy with planers out opposed to flat lining. Neither excites me anymore. Pulling cranks flat line or under a board just ain't fishing to me. If you are looking for a hook single poling with livescope give me a holler. I know an outfit who is wearing them out on all 4, with just one rod!
