Fishing on the waterway is a little different than other places. The COE controls the flow of water via the lock and dam systems. The current, or lack of, can dictate how and where the baitfish and crappie are located. It's pretty common to locate schools of fish that simply will not bite until the current picks up and triggers a bite. The same thing can happen on a smaller scale when a barge passes by and reverses the natural flow of things. You must understand that this river is fairly narrow but has heavy commercial traffic. I've often been fishing an area with nothing happening when a barge would pass by and trigger bites. It's hard to understand and believe until you witness it happen.
