With the ulterra, do you think I could float the boat off then spot lock it, go park then come back and remote control it around to the dock? Is that distance too far?
You can do it no problem, I do it all the time. I unload and hit the deploy, then spotlock. Go park, sometimes the remote will loose the signal and say "motor not found" but the boat is still spotlocked, as soon as I get back in range it picks right back up. Most of the ramps at Tibby I doubt you would even loose signal tho.
DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT forget to turn the power on, she's dead as a door nail until you turn her on. I have made a habit of turning the power on and then unhooking the winch, like Rock Mike says, it sure is a bad feeling for the boat to be floating away and the motor won't deploy.

I have the ulterra. What I do like about it is the power trim when I'm in a couple feet of water. I can trim it up through the remote.

Do you just turn the power on on the remote or is something you have to do on the motor or the foot control first?

Easy question. Do u fish structure? If yes, put an ultrex on it. If no, put an ulterra on it. Don't get me wrong u can fish in the thickest structure imaginable with that ulterra but your gonna cuss it and cuss it and cuss it again. If you don't fish structure you don't need that response time mentioned. It's a little slower turning but who cares when u got a thousand acres to get turned around. I'd base my choice on if I wanted to fish structure
