Did some research earlier this morning since I didn't go fishing. Australia I do not believe has used the Koi Virus on the carp, yet. They have approved the 15 billion or so budget for it, but the bleeding hearts are at it now. One guys says his business will be destroyed and profits loss cause he sells carp as bait, oh well buddy get another line of work, sorry to inconvenience you. Others are saying the carp are a food source among the under privileged and ethnic groups in Australia, so who knows where it will end up. The virus was introduced a while back into ALL of Japans rivers and steams and so far they report no damage to other species other than carp.

And to attempt to answer your questions Lowe, that is one of the concerns, a mass die off will cause oxygen loss and kill other fish that way. My thoughts is you need to catch them early in the bigger flood lakes while numbers are relatively low, if they in fact have been introduced that is.

Up in the hills I've seen crappie come out of pools that were never stocked and never flooded. You can't stop birds birds from transporting eggs or fish. I'd be very very surprised if there were no Asian Carp in the flood control lakes already.

Excellent point, I knew that fish were transported via birds to other bodies of water, but that completely slipped by me. I was speaking to a GW a couple of years ago and we got on the subject of Asian carp. I asked did he think there were any carp in a specific lake, his answer was no. The answer did not seem genuine, almost like a programmed response. This guy goes and does the electro fishing and if anyone would know it would be him. Not calling the officer a liar by any means, I respect them and the job they do and he is a good guy. But I would assume if there were carp in any of the lakes that the public would be the last to know. The government does not like to panic the citizens usually.

i was checked last year on butla while running jugs. it was a biologists just checking my catch and my bait as well. we talked a while and i asked if there had been any sign of AC on the northern 4. he said no and they look for it on a regular basis.

Fished from 9am until noon, wind woke up and so did the fleas, ended up with 8 or 9 gar and one white bass, lot of missed bites that I reckon were gar as well. I'm sure there are some nice crappie in the lake, but pulling cranks 8' - 15' deep in 20 to 22 foot water produced none for me. Thinking a different approach may have yielded better results. Maybe single poling around those docks and cypress trees perhaps. Seems pushing minners would be a nightmare with all them gar in there. Oh well, sure is some beautiful scenery though, I took some pics. The lake has lots of history, pre dating the civil war even. It was a trip worth while either way, even if no crappie caught.
