Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.
I do throw them back, I've heard there not bad eating. Just ain't sure about cleaning them. Them gar balls the cajuns eat sure look good. If a person likes to eat gar, I would imagine if you target them you could catch a pickup load of em down there in a day. I never knew gar would bite crankbaits, no more rolling thru those big schools of gar at Sardis anymore. Heck, some of them suckers 6 - 7 foot long out there.

It's too early to talk about eating gar.

With a pair of tin snips they are easy to clean, bright white meat / no fat.
"Poor man's lobster" --grill or fry and dip in butter.Don't knock it til you have tried it....

I have heard that they can be made up pretty tasty. I've heard Asian carp are the same way.
Course I grew up hearing that you fillet them with a reciprocating saw, season them heavily, and smoke them on a cedar plank. Once the fillets are well done toss the fish out and eat the wood!

Work em over Snubbys
Moon is a single pole Lake when it gets to summer. You can catch em on cranks at times, but docks and mats generally hold fish better, and you're gonna be fishing about 20 ft deep
