Remember to take your kids fishn'
Last year I was wading Nader one day and decided to try a mini rattle trap.
Jigging that thing around took no time in convincing me that a male crappie HATES a rattle trap.
I'll also use a Johnson mini spoon with great results.
But a big 3.5" triple ripple tail grub on a Rockport Rattler with a bass rattle stuck inside and a Colorado blade above it usually works wonders!

Yep but I tie it on and vertical jig with it just like a regular jig.
It "rattles," to say the least, and it jigs with a lot of movement. The treble hooks do a good job of hooking up on those short striking fish.
Bluff Lake, a lake near my home, notoriously has specks that swat at the jig once and then they're gone. That's where I started using the rattle trap. It works great at Grenada, etc. as well.
Don't those trebles get hung up in the brush a lot. I stay hung up enough with one hook. But if it works.
