    Default Tunica

Took my father in law to the cut off yesterday for a few hours of bass fishing. he had not been there in over 35 years. Fished 6 hrs and not one bite. Not really surprising! what was were the thousands of dead carp all over the lake! every boat ramp , bank, and brush pile had dead carp in them. It was like running an obstacle course! Good to see but I doubt it will put a dent in them.

Hate to hear it easy.. ain't been down there in I bet 5 years. MDWFP still puts up positive reports to promote fishing I reckon. That's there business from what I was told. My step father asked me about the lake a few years ago and I had to break the news.. I saw a tear welling up and heck he ain't even a fisherman.. he's a hunter, but still sad to hear. I had no idea about dead carp everywhere... sad..

I heard they been down there pulling nets all summer, lot of Buffalo and Catfish caught. Not many carp to be found (at least Asians). Game fish are making a come back maybe, OP can you confirm which type carp?? Any pics?? Sounds pic worthy with those amounts of dead fish everywhere..

Sorry no pics guy's. I guess the heat had an effect on them, thats my only guess since they tend to stay in shallow water with less oxygen. Guess all the game fish have better sense!

I read an article that said the Asian Carp contracted some sort of bacteria that was deadly to the ones in Tunica Cutoff. Evidently it hasn't affected other species of fish so far. If this holds true, they may finally have a way to at least start eradicating the carp.

There's a die off every summer in the oxbows. Now if we could just get a major die off in the river........

We had a massive die off a couple of years ago just below KY dam. They contributed it to low oxygen levels and a bacteria if I remember correctly.

I know there is a die off generally each year, But in my experience that normally included several species as well as the carp. For what I have heard the die off at Tunica is nearly all Asian Carp with a few German Carp.
