    Default long line help

hey guys i was wondering when longlining jigs is there a way to calculate the depth v's line out the same as crankbaits. i have good success with this and when the fish are in six to eight fow the trial and error isn't too bad. but when there on down there is there a chart or calculation to make this easier.

Do a search for long lining jigs. There is a good bit of info with an estimated depth chart, author Mr. Bernard Williams on the Magnolia Crappie Club website. It's a PDF file so I don't know how to copy and paste. It's a good read, it's about his first experience pulling jigs on Barnett. I have a buddy in TN who does it with good success, but I vowed my silence publicly to his techniques..

I just cast out as far as I can.....and then some times let a little more line out......you can vary depth with boat speed......faster to go shallower.....and slower to go deeper. And you can use heavier jigs to run deeper too.

Earl is right. Especially read Gabowman's post. He long lines almost exclusively and he is very effective at it. Best I've seen.

depth is determined by boat speed and wieght of your jig, trial and error is your best teacher
