Thread: 2016 spawn

I'm of the opinion that as much rain as El Nino has put on us, I think we may be looking at another high water spawn like last year. It seems like when we get a break, and water levels get somewhere close to good fishing levels, here comes another 2-3 inches of fresh water. I sure hope I am wrong! I would like to hear some other thoughts, too. This is not our norm and Spring hadn't even got here!

Going to need 2 good weeks of 50 degree nights. High water levels looks promising with these downpours every week. It's been a warm end to winter. Starting Saturday and 12 days after the weather looks great. If no more rain its going to be nice starting Sunday-Monday.

truthfully i wouldn't mind it holding off just a bit. i normally take my yearly week off work the 2cd week of April and normally hit the spawn pretty good. im afraid im gonna be bad late this year. talked to a friend in south la. yesterday and he is catching spawned out females now. may have to drive to arkansas for my vaca.

I tend to agree with armyman. Think we're looking at another spring of flooded lakes making the fish spread out far and wide. Still to early to tell but weather has been double crazy this winter as opposed to last. It's to early to say for sure we usually get our snow first week of march for the last few years. All I can is keep fishing and mother nature will do her thing. . Just a hint, but if waters are high don't be afraid of buying and using a machete and hatchet to get in on em..

Muddy water warms up faster

Yeah, I fish the Vicksburg area and eagle is the only lake really Okay to fish right now. (Just my opinion) I caught some the past weekend 12' deep of water fishing 6' deep. Most were females and I hate really keeping them but I wanted some fish to eat. I have a really nice camp on an oxbow lake that I catch fish most of the time on but the water is so muddy that I don't know how to fish it. I'm thinking minnow and crappie Niblet together.

They're gonna do it same as always. Different water temps, heavy rains,current,etc..might move them around from here to there, but they have biological clock that overrides abnormal weather patterns and makes them spawn.

And you've spoken to how many crappie to validate this?
