Default Please take a look at this!

There has been a proposal to legalize commercial fishing on Bay Springs we as sport fisherman need to let them know how we feel here is a copy of what I was sent

Here is the info on the commercial fishing proposal. The season will only be open Dec 1 - Feb 28. That is a very short season, but for die hard fishermen like us it will still interfere with our fishing. It would be restricted to mile 416 to 421. That is roughly the Josh Pond levee to the mouth of the divide cut, just north of crows neck ramp.

    FYI
MDWFP is proposing the legalization of commercial fishing on Bay Springs Lake. The public will have a 30 day period to make comments. After the comment period is up, the commission will decide to allow it or not. Comments can be sent to [email protected] or mailed to the Executive Director, 1505 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211
    See the email below for

Our proposed Commercial Fishing Regulations (Rule 3.1) has been uploaded at the SOC's office and is open for public comment.

The proposed Rule has been uploaded to the MS Administrative Bulletin, system number 20922. You can go to the link below to view the full text.

The Bay Springs language is under Section I, Special Permits.

Plenty of commercial fishing on the COE's, never has been a problem. Bay springs is lots bigger than the reservoirs too. Not like they are going to be netting crappie anyway.

Are you comparing Bay to the big three? Bay is about 6700 acres. Enid is 44,000 acres and the smallest of the big lakes. Also it has no big nutrient rich rivers feeding it. You can cross any of the three creeks feeding it with knee boots. It is a nutrient poor lake the nickname gin lake sums it up. Gill nets catch and kill fish that's what they were designed to do.

I hope they rid the lake of carp, buffalo, gar, cats, asian carp in their alotted 90 days.
Enid's conservation, winter pool is about 6100 acres. That leaves us 2 ramps mostly. Summer pool doesn't get very much larger than that. Flood pool is 28,000 acres. I haven't seen that since my kids were in high school.

I stand corrected. That's what you get for not reading your information thoroughly. Enid's land, water, and wetland's included 44,000 acres. I can be a DA from time to time.

I'm not excited, just wanted everyone to see this and express there opinion to the game and fish dept. I'm not for it because I have seen what it has done on Pickwick in the past, besides when you come through running 20 jigs and there not marked and every one of them are hung up in the net. I also have seen one full of crappie and other game fish before, maybe the net wasn't a legal size or something but it just put a bad taste in my mouth every since I saw that! Everyone has there right in this country to express there feelings and there opinions and I just wanted to make everyone aware of what they were trying to do!

I understand what your saying.....I just think that removing the carp, drum, buffalo, and other trash fish is a good thing. They have been commercial fishing Sardis and Grenada for years and it has not hurt the crappie that I can tell. We do get hung up on a net or trot line every once in awhile.
