How will the cold spell that is coming in affect the crappie bite? Does it turn them off, make them go deep? Just starting to fish at the Rez.

Yep, slow down a little the WAYYYY down after it's been cold as heck for a few days. It's fixing to get good on Barnett.

It's what a lot of us "hard core" guys have been waiting on. The colder weather concentrates the bait fish and crappie into large schools. At Ross Barnett you should spend your time on main river channels and ledges, try anywhere from 10'- 18' deep. The colder it gets the better. With a little experience you will also learn where the hot spots are in these areas when winter rains increase the current. Good luck.

How does the cold weather affect their behavior when it comes to bank fishing? Do they move back into the creeks now that the water level has dropped?

Simple question. Would You go shallow if the water was falling? They usually move out to the next break line as the water falls, until they wind up in deep water for the winter. They could still be Shallow in the column over deeper water tho, depending on surface temps and food!!!!' Cold weather effects...

I would go where it's warmest. Is that deep water in the winter? I only began fishing in February, and I'm just trying to figure out if the creek I fished in the spring will be a waste of time in the fall/winter.

I think it just depends on the size and location of the body of water. I can tell you I catch bass in a foot of water on the coldest days of winter in smaller ponds and stuff. They get up in that warmer shallow water I feel like. I would suspect a crappie behavior might be similar depending on where fishing. Probably going to be scattered all over at the big lakes.

I've caught crappie in 1-2 feet of water in January and February casting two 1/16 jigs under a cork, but the water level was stable. Never caught them while the water was falling, but I guess some have.
