I don't have SI but probably will soon. One of my friends has it and as he is trolling cranks he looks for bait fish on each side. When he spots schools of bait fish he can mark them with a waypoint and then troll back through the waypoints and catch the fish that are usually under them.
I can't find anyplace on Sardis that doesn't have a school of something or another.
That is the one thing that has been pulling me towards getting one. Still, it's a lot of money for something that I can do without, but Christmas ain't far off.Quote:

That's where I am. I have a 798. Figured I'd learn how to use it and then move it to the front of the boat and put an 899 on the console. I've got to learn to adjust my chart speed and sensitivity to get a clear picture.Quote:

Get the biggest screen you can afford!
Go to bbcboards.net. There's a huge section on using side imaging. Cuts the learning curve down to nothing. Have a pen n pad ready. Lots of info but I can see things now that I never would've on my own. Tells you how to set up your unit for the best results. Invaluable! Doug Vahrenberg is great. Has a YouTube page with a over a hundred tips.
