    Question Braid on jig pole?

Yesterday, I picked up my jig poles for the first time this year. I need to put new line on them, but I started wondering "what" new line I wanted. I am thinking about going with a braided line for my jig poles for extra sensitivity. I have never used braid for crappie fishing before.

I know some of you gewbers use braid for pulling cranks, but do any of you use it on your jig poles.

What are the benefits and what do you see as the potential problems?

Any suggestions for the brand and diameter/test?

I have used it for a long time. Tough, dosnt wear out, very sensitive. Tip a jig with minnow and you can feel him thumping away. In the wind some of it will tend to wrap around tip and it dosnt slip through a slip cork peg like mono will. When I try some more I'm going to get some of the BoneHead orange braid from Josh down in Texas. Sponsor here. Nothing but positive reviews on his line. Also the new PowerPro super slick is supposed to be good. Expensive but how much do you need on a jig pole? 150 yard spool should last you for years.

Some manufacturers will tell you their guides/poles are not rated for braided lines and will not honor the warranty if you use braid.

For example, see the first post here:

I have seen similar comments in other threads.

Love 10lb hi vis braid. Still have one rigged with mono too, but with braid you never have to worry about breaking off. At least not on a crappie.
