CATCH THEM ALL.
No. I thought he was saying he caught a 40 pound stringer of 20 fish without culling. I know there are SOME big fish in it. I'll even go as far as saying there are a lot of fish in it.
To what ATM said about sardis (although I didn't weigh them) in one place I fished for 4 months out of each15 fish limit I would have from 3 to 6 16"fish in the bunch. It was crazy.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.... Hands down..Barnett is the best body of water in the state. Structure deep and shallow, any kind of ledge you want with structure, flats, a deep river.. And water level that don't fructuate but 6 inches now( 1.5' in the past)
Only thing the corps lakes have that Barnett don't is a biologist and management... Put a slot on Barnett and enforce it... 5 years from now it'll be the best lake in the state.
Everyone hates it because you have to Learn it to be successful consistently on it. It is the hardest lake to consistently stay on BIG fish at.
The corp lakes are stocked and have had years of keeping +12" fish... Therefore making it easier to catch "cookie cutter" fish (fish the same size) from year to year.
I agree with both sides on this one, now is the time of year ( if you know where to fish) you can catch some monsters out of Barnett. We have caught some really good fish down there in Feb and on through the spawn, I believe if I am not wrong that one Feb a few years ago Driskoll and his partner weight a 7 fish limit in the upper 15 pnd range, someone can research this if they want to but it was a huge stringer, with that being said I have never caught a stringer of 20 anywhere anytime that would compare to some of the 20 fish stringers I have put together at Grenada, I cant speak for Sardis or Enid or Butla because I haven't fished them much, btw I hope that in the next few weeks we can show you some of those small dinks that Barnett has in it,![]()

Ever thought Those tourist spend big $$ in your towns and may contribute to the funding it takes to research and manage the big 4? Y'all complain about it.. I don't mind it.. I'm not a greedy person.. I would love to see it on Barnett. Until I see it otherwise.. I say the folks that do the most damage on lakes are the local people... We have a few out of state come to Barnett. They catch fish. But in most cases it's the local fisherman that bends the rules.
If I could change Barnett.. I'd put a 12" slot to start. Then in time I'd do limits as needed, and most of all I'd put the enforcement there needed and make 100% of the fishing related citations go directly back into the MDWFP to keep improving these places.
DonDon LIKED above post
Locals do hurt a lake i agree but when u drive through a camp ground and c all the campers with deep freezers sitting outside and in the back of their truck i bet they aint haulin ice cream. And it would b nice if the money from any citation went to the MDWFP but they dont get any of it. Any citation given the money from it goes to the county in which it was written.
This argument seems to come up every six months....just saying.......nobody ever wins....its like fords are better than chevy and vice versa....everybody likes their favorite lake the best, everybody likes what fishfinder they have the best, everybody likes their dog the best....it's just how it is.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
