It is an old river channel lake like Wolf just much wider. Water depth varies from 3 ft in the upper end to 30 ft in the middle. It does still have access to the Mississippi river on the lower end thrua chute so water level and the bite will depend greatly on the stage of the river. As long as you stay in the middle of the channel when on plane there should not be any logs to hit. If you decide to go throw the chute to Albermarle be very carefull because it is full of logs and stumps. You must idle with motor trimmed up and it stays shallow for a good ways.

What they said, it is either on like donkey kong or completely shut down. Don't be afraid to fish deep during the winter months. Chotard actually consist of 3 or 4 lakes, depending on the water levels, Chotard, Abermarel, Tennessee, and Airplane.

I fought the gar on a cold rainy day in February a couple years ago. Craziest thing I ever saw, was as bad with the gar as a day in July!

Think one of the tournaments down there last year took almost a 15 pound stringer out of eagle to win it.
