That'll work. I only do it when I want to run a few extra poles. Never needed it otherwise. You running all your rod tips low or high? Other boats shouldn't be crossing within 50' anyway...Gewbers.

Think it was feelay who mentioned a worm sinker 3-4 feet up the line to make a 300 run deeper. Looked for his post but it was too far back to find. I am thinking about a 1/4 oz sinker up the line 3-4 ft followed by a bead and a swivel then some 10 pound mono, a snap and a bandit. Not just for more depth but more depth with less line out. I notice that my line actually runs shallower than you would expect. Like shallow enough to be in someone's motor 50 ft behimd me. it happened on enid a couple of weeks ago. They thought they were far enough to cut behind me and I would have thought so too but they picked up my line. Gettimg it down quicker would be better. Pushing might work but Rees Guide said something about catching fewer fish and that turned me off. If I caught many fewer I would have to bring some back that I caught last year.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Your crank might have a hole in it. Thanks to the gar. They run very high with water in them. 50 foot is way to close to cross over. Gookins everywhere. Some people just ain't got any sense.
Don't think u really need a weight. I really think your problem is getting your rod tips down. Next time u reel your crank up, feel the difference in tension it makes when you got your rod tip up, down, and then down and to your side. In my opinion it runs best down and to the side. Figure out how to get all your poles running this way and you won't have to worry with weights and such. I am by no means a pro cranker but this I learned pretty quickly and began catching lots of fish when I got them down and out the side.
Low and out the side is the way to go!
My rod tips are within a foot of the surface. The line still runs 10 ft or more before getting submerged. Any lower and they will go under when the waves hit. It seems like my lines run shallow for white a way before turning down. Line doesn't just go at a straight line to the bait. Drag keeps it up. Even 30 pound braid 8 lb. diameter. 1.7 mph.

There is a Guber on Enid in a pontoon that seems to be there everyday that will run as close to you as he can. He will run behind you or cut across in front of you and it seems he does it on purpose
