    Default sardis 8/11

Started a little later(7:30). Trying to make it so my batteries would last 'til 2-3. Put in at beach Point and headed just past Clear Creek intending to work back west over to the channel near Pat's Bluff and then head across to the north side and work back to beach point. Set the poles and didn't take long for 3 poles to be bent over. Good start. That is if you were drum fishing. This set the tone for the day. I caught at least 15 if not 20 little drum. They were pesky little devils. Then got a decent 13 inch crappie. While taking it off Teresa threw me my hat. Or tried to. Instead it went overboard. By the time I got the fish off and a small cat and two or three drum the hat was long gone. Hard to turn around without tangling. Kept on catching drum and cat but few crappie. Finally made it to the 31 ft contour on the north which is a ways off shore. Started picking up nice crappie in 31 ft from point 5 back to Beach point. Had it to do over I would stay within a half mile of the nw corner. Fish were thick from 18-23 feet. May have been drum and cat but the 597 was always full of fish with shad balls showing up regularly. Ended up with only 14 but they were all nice ones. Teresa caught most of them. only 3-4 throwbacks all day except for about 20 drum and cats. Black bubblegum again was hottest color. Drum and cat sure like pink and Grenada shad.
I was pulling pretty far back( 120-165 ft). Was I under them therefore the drum and cat? All in all a nice day and we missed any storms.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Any particular reason for running 165ft? I thought that after 150ft anymore line out than that didnt have any bearing on how deep the 300's would run.

165 ft.... Whewww... Thats weird though.. We caught a bunch of fish saturday, and our longest pole was 85ft. Just goes to show you how scattered they are.... I think

No matter how low I run mine it is about 25 or 30 ft before they enter the water. So 165 is really 135.110 is about85 and so on . Thinking about trying pushing.

Prolly cut you numbers in half as far as fish if you start pushing, it has its place but in open water like we are fishing I feel that pulling is more productive.

Gomer you weren't the only drum major on the west end of sardis today. Bet we caught 15-20 ourselves.

Tried new water to us mainly in front of clear creek. Lots of throw backs 9 keepers and a decent size slimmer. Got blowed off the water about 230.

Answer me this please. How in the name of physics can catfish slim travel up the line a good foot or more when all the energy is going the other way ?

just wondering... I don't use a swivel on my snaps. Just either a norman fast snap or a small cross lock. would this much less weight make my 300's run shallower? Goes back to my bass tourney days when I felt any snap curtailed the lures action. I would tie directly if I didn't change as often, I just don't figure my baits are going that deep.A few days ago somebody cut about 75 ft behind me abnd caught my lines. 8/30 suffix 832 and power pro slick 8, which has become my favorite braid.
