You can learn a lot here, most likely you will eventually need to get a boat. You are sitting smack dab in the middle of the best crappie fisheries in the world. It don't take a lot of money to get the basics down and catch plenty of fish. Just pay attention to what folks tell you and take advantage of trips offered. They will cut your learning curve by 80%.

Yep--had a buddy that's been fishing Sardis for 30 plus years tell me I know more than he does not--and I learned it in a year and a half and every bit of it came from c.com and it's members. Course i still don't know that much--

I am testament to learning from crappie.com members. The wife and I bought a boat 3 months ago and started trolling bandits 2 months ago at Sardis. Continued to improve our catch rate until last Saturday we got our limits. Felt good too.

In the up coming change of seasons watch for my post as I know nothing of how to catch crappie in fall and winter and will try and juice these guys for information then apply it on the water.

Seriously, these folks are very helpful and forth coming with helping newbies and I owe our success to that fact. Good luck !

You will want to spider rig this fall and winter. Double hook rigs with Crappielogic gnats and minnows. Lots of fun, you get a lot of fight from your fish this way.

So I guess that means different rods than the crappie maxx titeline specials and okuma reels I've been buying for trolling.

You will want your spider rigging poles to be 14'-16'. I like 14'ers. The main thing is a sensitive tip. Any reel with a good drag system will work. I also prefer hi-vis line.
