    Default Gonna bite the bullet..

I've been a single pole fisherman all my life. I'm ready to try pullin cranks! I've read the pullin cranks thread, but I was gonna get some specific advice. (if y'all would be so kind) (1) Do I have to have line counter reels? Will they help? If so I have no problem getting them. (2) I will be pulling from a 1650 aluminum boat. Is this too small? (3) I'm set up with several trolling batteries, can a trolling motor pull me fast enough? (4) how many rods should I start out with? (5) what kinda rod holders should I get.... Just in general any extra advice y'all could give would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

I use to pull with a 9.8 hp. I would just be idleing along and just hung the poles off the sides and out the back of the boat. Just pull a foot of line at a time off your reel until you get to the desired length. (90 to 100 feet) Good luck!

    1) Not necessary but makes it easier. Alternatives is to mark the line in intervals with marker, or use meter line (changes colors every 25 ft), or buy a clip-on line counter. The okumas are not very expensive but work well.

    2) just fine in size

    3) yes, borrow a handheld gps to figure speed or some smart phones have apps that will show gps speed.

4)3 or 4. Either side and out the back.

    5) Wise rod tender (twin-pack) works for me, but lots of good options out there, just depends how you want to mount them and the type of spread you want between the rods.

Well since the spring I was lucky enough to buy some used okuma reels. Then bout 100 crankbaits used. Then bought a second depth finder for back of boat. Made some homemade rod holders. They worked okay. Now just bought some hi tek rod holders. Be careful it is addictive and costly on the front end. But now Im done buying stuff for this year. I PROMISE! Duck season is coming up soon. Gotta control my sel
I am pulling out of 16' 54" tin boat. I pull with my outboard though

Fish finder with GPS and a good lake map is almost a must.
