    Default Trolling rods...

new to trolling and want to buy some starter rods/reels - the local Cabelas has Okuma reel/rod combo for a decent price - but I need to know which rod action is best for trolling for crappie, these come in 7' , 7'6", or 8' lengths and Light, Med Light, Med, or Heavy action rod

So what length and action is best suited for trolling crappie, or does it really matter?

I like a medium action to medium light action, are you pulling them out the back of the boat or from the sides? out the back length wont matter that much but the longer the better IMO, out the side you need to stagger the length a 3 foot stagger works good

What kind of trolling?? If you are talking pulling cranks then go to Grizzly Jig Company - Limit Rods and get your rods, 15 bucks each if you order in 4s, then go to northwoods or sumpin like that and get some Okuma 20s for around 30 bucks each. Linecounter reel and rod combo for 45 bucks and if you decide yoiu dont like it you can recover alot of your money pretty easy selling it em on here, linecounters or rods dont last long when put up for sale around here.

Bnm pst 12'. Okuma line counters. Ande Envy Green 15lb mono. Grizzly jig on rods and reels. Captain Harry's for the line. You can use that set up in any application for trolling. That's about 70 bucks a combo. Whatever you buy use the same combos on all rods and reels. That makes it easier on honing in on the fish rather than trying to duplicate other rods to a rod that's hot. Hope this saves you money. Do your research before you buy anything. Back to your question med-med/heavy.

I use cabelas depthmaster combo, medium or ml power and at least 8 ft long for cranks. I also have some similar rods from Gander mtn labeled "steelhead" with Okuma line counters.
