    Default crankin' question

On windy days can you successfully pull cranks by going downwind and maintaining 1.7 mph like I do when the wind is calm? Will the bandits work properly ? It seems to me that the water would be moving too and the lure would not have enough speed to vibrate correctly. Thought that maybe pulling downwind would use less battery. Pull down and motor back up.

Pulling downwind should make no difference at all.

Actually trolling down wind might help if you got in wave action. The lift and fall of the boat will cause those baits to be more erratic speeding up and slowing down. Reaction bite.

We trolled cross wind for a while yesterday just to see how the Cat was gonna react to the waves, it was white capping and she handled it like a champ. Turned with the wind and the TM went all the way down to 3.5 to maintain 1.8mph.
If you aren't doing it already you need to raise the big motor up just leaving the skeg in the water for a little rutter action, you'll add 45 minutes to an hour to your tolling time I bet. I was really surprised when I tried it after someone on here suggested it. Also stay out of the back of the boat as much as possible, sitting toward the front keeps the trolling motor deeper giving it more leveage.

Thought about raising the motor. We put the trolling motor down when we pull on nor fork with a 20 merc 4 stroke and it helps slow down a bit.

Down wind is perfect. You can catch fish at 2-2.5 mph no problem.

Almost forgot only problem is when your on a windy lake pay ATTENTION on what's going on little room for error and things can go south very fast.
