Thread: Sardis Crankbait???

Tried this today, caught the limit, plus plenty of thro backs and several nice catfish, but also caught a few throw backs that had the crankbait deep in the throat and they were gilled. I know they had to die and I saw others floating that had been caught and gilled. I just don't see how any of the big 4 can maintain healthy numbers of quality fish with this type fishing and considering how many fish that are taken out of there during the spawn. I am not knocking anybody's methods, just making a statement. Regardless of the type of fishing, I just think they are going to have to give the fish and the lake a rest during some time of the year. Don't like the idea, but I just think it is going to have to happen to maintain the population.

That's what the MLL does. There are millions of fish under the MLL. As long as the MLL stays above spawning size the problem is solved!

I agree 100 percent. Can't remember who posted it but I think it was dd on one of the butla threads. After this pounding u can expect a few down years on Sardis but other lakes are receiving less pressure because of it. I'm not going to sit on the side lines and gripe anymore. I'm about to deck out a 20 ft center console and crank the hell out of Sardis the rest of the summer. My wife will love it. She thinks crappie fishing is boring as of now because all I have done is taken her on slow jigging days.

Try taking the front hook off of your crankbait. I have been doing it that way for 4 years and you don't lose any more fish but it is WAY easier on the throwbacks.

Sweet debate on crankbaitin. I always look forward to my time on Sardis or pickwick. The mll is doing a good job of controlling the fishery on the the big 4. Hopping the weather holds for Wednesday.

You do realize this type of fishing has been going on for several years now and Sardis has possibly been the best crappie lake in the United States for the past year. There are a very healthy number of fish in Sardis. This time last year everyone was mad cause keepers were hard to come by. This year people don't see how it can stand this many fish being taken out. Next year keepers will be harder to come by again and folks will say the lake has been raped. Then the smaller fish that are so abundant in the age structure at Sardis right now will grow up and we will enjoy great success again. As long as there is a MLL on these lakes the only possible fish that we can take out are 3 plus years old and as long as we don't have several years of bad spawns in a row we will stay in relatively good shape.
