    Default Got problems after installing tilt


    Installed tilt on my 1989 Tracker that has a 40 Mariner. The unit is a Panther. The tilt works fine except that it raised my motor about four inches . As long as I go slow every thing is fine but as soon as I get on the gas the prop cavitates. Question: has anyone had this problem? And will a "wing" mounted on the motor stop the cavitation?

    Sounds like you simply mounted it to high. My cmc tilt and trim is adjustable but not 4 inches worth of adjustment in it. Got any pics?

    Going to have to figure out how to lower your motor back down close to the level it was before installing trim. Wing won't help that problem. Also I installed a Minkota trim on my old boat and another issue you need to be aware of. If you trim it over to far it might hit transom and break steering loop. Replaced 2 on mine.

    Some units are Tilt ONLY. They won't Trim the motor when running because they don't have enough power to fight the pressure of the engine. Check and make sure you have a Trim AND Tilt model. If not, it will not trim the engine!!!!

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong...and I'm sure you will:D but shouldn't the cavatation plate be right in line with the bottom of the transom?

    The tilt and/or trim unit should have bolted on in the same holes as the engine, setting the engine in about the proper position. If anything, with the set back of the unit, you may need to mount the engine one or maybe two holes higher on the T and T unit to set your heights right, but that should not affect the T and T units performance.

    This. Your T&T unit should give you 4"-6" of setback. You should be able to mount the motor higher, just not 4" higher. That's a lot.
