    Default Modifying My HiTeks

I have 4 sets of HiTeks on my boat and love them. The only problem I've had is when I'm side trolling from the front, sometimes my pole will roll out of the "V" in the front of the holder. Some poles have a thicker handle than others and that makes it worse. I went to my local hardware store and got a package of 4 corner braces. The first hole in the brace lined up perfectly with the 1/2 in bolt on my holder. I just had to drill the hole out a bigger size and cut off some of one side of the brace. I placed the "L" shaped piece between the rod holder and the brace and tightened it down. Here's pics to show what I did. We'll try them out tomorrow morning and let you all know how it worked.

Mine rods have slipped like that before....but I never lost one. Even when the rod is out of the 'V' it is still held tight. I have hung stumps before and it will not come out. We got out in the yard and put a rod in the holder and pulled on the line trying to get one to come out.....never happened. I understand that Scott has a new design though for pulling from the side that has a lot taller sides on the 'V'
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Yea I PM'd Scott before I did this and he told me he had some new holders with a deeper "V" made for trolling, but I didn't see them on his website. I don't have but $5 in this jerry rig so if I see some of the new holders, I might get some. This should work for now.

Great idea Scott. Wish I would have seen that earlier, would have saved my brother some time. I am not going to show him your idea and just tell him mine worked great.

    Default Better be careful

looks like those square corners could make a big gash in a leg, arm, side or head if a slip or trip were to occur.

I have seen some folks that do that and they round the ends off and then rubber coat them. You can get the rubber coat stuff at Harbor freight.

I think I will grind down the corners and rubber coat them.

Lowes has plasti-dip in the paint area. It's around 6 bucks a can and would do quite a few.
